We encourage your organization to thank your donors for any donations received via the North Texas Giving Day platform. However, we ask that nonprofits do not issue a tax receipt for any online donations given directly on the Giving Day website. Communities Foundation of Texas, who accepts the donation(s) on your behalf issues a tax receipt upon completion of an online donation. This receipt is the donor's tax acknowledgment statement and expresses that the gift is 100% deductible.
If your organization receives any gifts offline (not through the Giving Day platform) such as matching funds, cash, check, or stock you need to issue those donors a tax acknowledgment statement.
What do you do if a donor reaches out to you and says that they didn’t receive a receipt?
There are a couple of options if a donor reaches out to you about their receipt:
- You can ask the donor if they created a donor account on the website. If they did, the donor can log in to their account and resend the receipt to their email address
- As a nonprofit, you can also resend a receipt to your donors through your nonprofit portal. Login to your organization's page and visit the "Donation Information" tab. You can generate a duplicate receipt by clicking the "Send Receipt" button to the right of the specific donation. This receipt will automatically be sent to the email address submitted by the donor when the donation was made.
- If neither of those options works for you or your donor, you can always refer them to us through our Help Center.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to our team at northtexasgivingday@cftexas.org and we would be happy to assist.
